Seely purchased the ONKYO TX-NR808 to replace my 10 years Lexicon DC-2 preamps and amplifiers from Carver Professional. The power and Kreisel Miller Onkyo 750 THX 5.1 speaker system. I realized that after 10 years you could use an audio update, though the Lexicon is still an amazing piece of equipment, but do not want to spend $ 6500 on this occasion. I wanted a receiver that had all the new DTS and Dolby Surround, and could power the 4 ohm M & K speakers (8 ohm vs 4 settings setup menus). Sounds great I love the video switching and large-screen configuration. I have a Netgear Digital Entertainer Elite 9150 hooked to it with a single HDMI cable. Being able to use HDMI cables really clean and you can also send audio through the same cable. The same goes for my HD cable box, HDMI separate audio cable is not necessary. I've had no problems with the Ethernet does not connect, even if I update via Internet streaming of the connected computer in the network is good, no problems. Pandora works flawlessly. For the price and the opportunities that it can not be beat. Even Amazon has it for the lowest price. UPDATE: 02/11/07 Still no problem. I now have a HTPC connected running WMC and Boxee. Great product for the money. 49 of 51 people found the following review helpful. Excellent receiver in this price range by KD I bought a 1120k receiver and returned it for this. See my review and LSI15 1120k companion study (right speaker even though I bought both) if you are curious. I used this amp to drive 4 ohm speakers. Most audiophiles will tell you to get an external amplifier to power them. I usually skeptical of these claims. Myth: You will need an external amplifier driving 4 ohm speakers. False. I pushed it with an Onkyo 808 135 watts into 8 ohms, not sure about the 4 ohm spec Onkyo not advertise, because there was absolutely no clipping at ear blistering levels. No hardness at all because of LSi15 that I heard from the C-5. At high volume, gave the energy, C-5 me headaches. However, LSI is still extremely slick. Speakers (LSi15) is 89dB efficiency at 1 watt, so if I'm doing push-to-110db, it would be to press only 128 watts. 110db is much higher than comfortable for most living rooms. I guess when you hear it loud as it would require external amplification. Most normal people do not. Tip: Do not set the receiver to 4 ohms. Leave it at 8 ohms. The 4-ohm mode only serve to cut the power to protect the receiver. My receiver has two fans that I never noticed it to rotate. Onkyo is by inserting the smart fans. Previously, they were hot enough to boil eggs. Want to improve sound quality external amplification? I have my doubts. I am a huge supporter of amplifiers used for a volume too high just listening to a normal level do not require an amplifier to improve the quality (relative to this receiver, can lower the receiver has problems). But if anyone has an amp and want to prove me wrong, I'm ready to become a believer. Onkyo 808 is a giant beast with a very strong heat sink, with two fans. Each has high-end adjustable settings, you can think of. The only thing I have found is that the correction of the noise on my stream Netflix as a ghost. This may be due to the correction algorithm noise, combined with 120Hz feature on my TV. The noise correction offset the ghost for me. The quality of the conversion up is good but maybe a little "soft SD. I'm not an A to B comparison with Pioneer, so I can not be sure which is better. If Marvell is better, did not notice. I will not propose to purchase an audio receiver for video processing chips. Most SD looks bad, regardless of conversion and high-resolution source better look at the native resolution of your TV.
