No sound is low cost, either by Mike Ventura This receiver replaced a Sony STR 397 had an ongoing problem that has never been corrected static. I gave up on Sony and bought Onkyo. I use it to power two Polk tower speakers connected to my HDTV and DVD player. The receiver is basic, no frills. Bass, treble and balance are on the front panel. No volume control. There are several settings in memory for music stations. All connections are standard on the back, including an entry for the iPod (dock extra). The tuner works well and has standard search for stations. The receiver is rated at 50W per channel. It is accurate enough for Polk. The sound is clear and simple. There is a sharper, cleaner sound than the Sony. For playback sound without a lot of jewelry and buttons, this has proved an excellent choice. I am very satisfied with the item. By Arthur Hampton I bought this receiver to replace a good amp, preamp combo I was 25 and had worked well (NAD). So it has a tuner - oh well. I almost never on the radio. But this unit is simply amazing. It seems to me totally transparent. No noise, no hum, nothing to inform me that I'm listening to a CD, unless the sign is on the CD or other audio source. If the material is much better in the last 25 years, or my hearing has worsened. Heh heh - both are true. I only had two days, so I do not know about durability. It's driving a pair of speakers from the IMF, which are very power hungry - no problem, just sings beautifully. 39 of 39 people found this review helpful. A very good two-channel receiver with S. Letterman I would my own personal opinion on my purchase and use of the Onkyo receiver model TX-8255 right from the top I must admit that I am more than satisfied with this receiver I've ever been with any other receiver I've owned. I go back to the days of tube components and I took a few of the old style Marantz receiver, a Yamaha and Harmon Kardon and Mackintosh components over the years and all have performed in varying degrees of satisfaction. Each unit has its advantages and disadvantages as they should. I recently had a problem with my last receiver and had the problem repaired on several occasions, but only lasted maybe one year repair, and when I had the same problem. I decided it was time for something different and really what I wanted was a simple two-channel stereo receiver that would drive my Paradigm tower speakers and sound decent, but performance problems and has a decent AM / FM tuner section. After doing homework, I decided the Onkyo TX-8255 model try model in a nutshell, the Onkyo exceeds all my expectations. It has more than enough power to drive the 8 ohm speakers, Paradigm, even above the normal listening levels without noticeable clipping. The receiver section attracts many stations although I must admit that living in an urban medium, I would say there would be no problems. The remote unit and are very friendly and clean set. The only thing I miss would have been a control medium. Other than that I have no problem saying that I really love this phone and expect to stay with him for the coming years.
