Onkyo's TX-8555 A/V Stereo Receiver: Focusing on a Superior Audio Amplification Approach for Quality Stereo Sound In the fast-paced world of home entertainment technology, change has become an understated word. Technologies now change so quickly that the new becomes yesterday’s product before you barely become accustomed to it. Perhaps it’s time to refocus on what’s really important for quality audio: first-rate sound with high power output. Forget about over-hyped processing technologies. If your receiver lacks the fundamental amplifier design from the power supply through to the output stage, everything else is superfluous. The TX-8555 is built with this in mind. Incorporating Onkyo's proprietary Wide Range Amplifier Design (WRAT) with an isolated power transformer and discrete output stage, the TX-8555 is focused on maintaining the purity of music, radio and video sources. Also, with the option to take up XM® Satellite Radio or to connect your iPod® to the system, the TX-8555 gives you the versatility for a sweeping range of entertainment options. Superb Design The TX-8555 includes Onkyo's exclusive Wide Range Amplifier Technology With its continued excellence in sound reproduction, Onkyo has once again created a powerful, very versatile stereo receiver for the home theater enthusiast. The TX-8555 Stereo Receiver offers superb functionality and dual-room capability that will be hard to match. Onkyo exclusives like Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT), Discrete Output Stage Circuitry, Massive Power Transformer, and Heavy-Duty Extruded Heat Sink offer the cleanest signal on the market. Most of the receiver's audio processing is handled automatically, with little intervention on your part. However, it is so advanced; its discrete output reproduces music with unmatched sonic clarity and dynamic power. This receiver features a high-end design approach encompassing everything from its massive power transformer design and high-current, low-impedance drive to discrete output circuitry and minimal use of negative feedback. This enables the receiver to combine tighter bass, superb transient response and enhanced presence at any volume level. It's the Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT) that will fill your room with noise-free, impressively powerful, true-to-life sound. With a broader frequency range and lower harmonic noise entering the signal path, this receiver is perfectly suited for new high resolution DVD-Audio and SACD formats. In a Nutshell The TX-8555, with high-current, low-impedance drive capability, 2 x 100W amplification, 20Hz - 20KHz frequency response, and a vibration-resistant chassis, is a lot of what you need and none of what you don't. This receiver is capable of delivering breathtaking stereo sound. It features XM/Sirius satellite radio capability, 4-sets of A/V inputs, 2-sets of audio inputs/outputs, Zone 2 output, individual treble, bass, and balance controls, Remote Interactive (RI) port, A/B speaker switching, banana plug speaker posts, and an AM/FM tuner. Because of the high efficiency of its design, this receiver produces exceptional sound quality, and clarity in every audible detail. I got a little older, well-regarded amplifiers (tube and solid state) that much more expensive when new, so my expectations were not high for this Onkyo. That said, I'm surprised by how good this amp sounds. I run the amp Pure Audio Mode (press twice on the Pure Audio button on the front, the blue LED lights, indicating the Pure Audio mode). If I did not know, I swear this was a high-end amplifier. There is absolutely no background noise. No whistle. No hum. Nothing but dead silence. Make music with quiet passages leap to life. I like this amp to drive speakers or headphones Grado Paradigm Titan, the quality of sound reproduction and dynamic range is absolutely excellent, especially bass. With a CD-quality audio source, I can clearly hear every cymbal to go with all this wood, every bass note, with all the vibrations of the strings of each finger amp costs, I can not imagine looking elsewhere if you need to ask important reference monitors. This amp is more than capable to drive a little to full-scale Floor speakers at a reasonable volume. The amplifier includes an AM / FM tuner that works quite well. FM channels coming in loud and clear with the antenna wire included. AM reception is a little difficult with the antenna included short and his son, then to plan a minimum, to add four to eight feet of wire of the AM antenna to the loop and get away from cords power. But it is really of little importance, if what you are looking for in the first place, is a high quality stereo amplifier. I listened to high-end amplifier many times its cost a lot and some that are pure and clean. The general appearance of the device is professional quality, with just the right weight and controls were positive comments and not feel thin. The volume is particularly nice, with a strong, smooth which react slowly, so fine, the volume control of analog. In short, I think anyone with reasonable expectations will be disappointed. This amplifier delivers performance and quality far beyond its price range. 54 of 56 people found this review helpful. Great value for money! For Colin_Potter_780 say that this Onkyo is an artist with money is an understatement. I have an Onkyo 705 surround sound receiver so they were my first choice for my stereo setup as well, but I auditioned a lot of other teams in the price range, and was close! This is exactly what is known about Onkyo, power clean, clear, good signal to noise ratio, etc. I use it to power a number of Bowers and Wilkins bookshelf speakers with a sensitivity of about 85 dB, and only in 40 volumes, the house is filled with beautiful sound! I would recommend this receiver to anyone looking for the best performance from their stereo without buying separate components (preamp and power amp)! The design is very stable, as with all Onkyo products, and it has a nice weight to it without feeling full of lead, it keeps the clean, simple design with Onkyo components and so many other brands are known to use that I very attractive. My two main complaints are trivial, but still need to be treated. 1) I would have used a backlit remote and the 705 ... 2) You press twice the PURE AUDIO button to select the Pure Audio mode to get ... another, from one-touch, it's not for direct mode .... Like I said, trivial.
