Excellent AV receiver with plenty of features for NYCESQ Denon 4308CI receiver Strengths: Great picture quality and sound, excellent build quality, nice display, GUI, easy to assign / rename impute, HD radio, 4 HDMI, 140 Watt multizone output, good value for price. Weaknesses: Manual complicated, useless remote processor Silicon Optix versus Faroudja paid price: 1,780 $ (2 / 08) from a reputable retail store. (Please do not ask which way I got an insider price) Summary: After much research I purchased the Denon 4308CI to upgrade a Sony receiver prexisting STRDA555ES. My greatest wish was to update the HDMI connection capability and take advantage updated sound processing and 1080p upscaling. I ruled out several receivers comparable for various reasons, including heat generation as my components are enclosed in a audio rack partially recessed into a closed press room like an old Sony fan and owner of three ES AV receivers, all reduce to a choice between the 5300ES and 4308CI Denon STRDA. I chose the Denon Sony for several reasons. Denon display is much higher. It may sound silly, but I like to see the information displayed on the receiver from where I'm ready for music. Sony display was rather small. I also liked the fact that the Denon has the capability to Internet streaming and HD radio reception. Sony has more HDMI connections and a longer warranty (5 years compared to 2 for the Denon), but Denon has increased and full 1080p. Silent Denon was a few hundred dollars more than the Sony, but I felt I had a more "modern" features. So far after 4 months of use I have been very happy with the Denon. The sound is fantastic and the graphical interface is intuitive, I disagree with some of the other reviews I read about the easy installation. It took a little longer than I had expected to set up but like I said before GUI was fairly intuitive. I really like the fact that you rename the inputs so that when you select them from the selection function dial, which displays the name you decide. I prefer optical connections so I had a number of optical connections to reschedule. Rear connections seem pretty sturdy. The unit gets warm but not hot after a few hours use. Still no use of 1080p resolution so far. HD radio signal is pretty strong and so far no problems, despite living in a New York apartment building. Harmony 880 universal remote control works better than the included remote. Video processing is excellent. However, I occasionally noticed that the video artifacts. This reciver uses a Faroudja DCDi processor FLI2310 that just is not as highly regarded by professional critics as the Realta HQV Silicon Optix processor used by Denon's flagship Blu-ray or 3800BDCI Silicon Optix Reon chipset used by the receivers and Onkyo Integra DTR-TX NR905 and 88. However, the overall image quality of standard cable materials 720p and 1080i sources is excellent. Vs.4308CI 3808CI? The 4308CI seemed to have a little more "attractive" quality of construction and appearance. By comparing the two models side by side before you buy, the 4308CI simply looked better. However, HD radio, handling more power and Wi-Fi are the main reasons he chose to spend more to buy the 4308CI. 4308CI and blu-ray combo 3800BDCI. They had the 4308CI and 3800BDCI pairs in the last three weeks. The image of Blu-ray is just fantastic. Never buy a standard DVD is available in Blu-ray. Conclusion: I was very happy with the 4308CI offers an excellent sound and imaging features at an attractive price. However, if you're interested in video processing better than you might want the Onkyo TX-NR905 8.8 DTR control and integrates well. Components of the evaluation system (used in the review) Panasonic.
