To RobAtlanta had the previous generation of 808 for several months, but was in need of a second receiver, and he knew what I wanted. In short, I'm surprised with the sound quality of 809. Music and movies sound much, much better - and the 808 is no slouch. The sound is richer, fuller and more balanced for all audio files - HD files on my server, but also music in real time low bit rates. Decoding surround sound for movies and the balance is much better and really adds to the "being there" experience. The 809 helped me with one of my biggest problems - subwoofers do not have a lot of bark when Bruce Willis blows the bad guys. Subs now sound much deeper and finally shake the ground and the only difference in my system is 809. Onkyo has obviously put a lot of work on improving the audio processing technologies. Graphical interfaces are better - especially for the net function / button, I literally could not tear myself from the 809 for hours after I set up - I had to see how much better everything sounded. Could not be happier and look at the purchase worth every penny. 15 of 17 people found this review helpful. The 809 is worth the upgrade ... Onkyo TX-NR809 Mike PA THX 7.2-channel network A / V Receiver (Black) certified property - day 10 I of a Onkyo TX-SR606, which I have been updated for about 3 years in the property. I loved my 606 so I thought why not with what I know / like (Onkyo) stick. I know all the problems people had with the Onkyo 808 and has stood by their product and repair of honor, even if one product is within the warranty period. I now have the opportunity to review all the bells and whistles of this receptor. Configuration - 5 / 5, very simply, if you are already experienced in the past with each receiver (strongly suggest, banana plugs and 14 or 12 gauge speaker cable). The included calibration microphone makes things really easy - connect your microphone and the receiver will automatically switch the user interface screen for the speaker setup and calibration after installation detects the speakers have been connected you can configure additional "points "in your viewing area. (May require a minimum of 10-15 minutes). Network configuration is very simple if you use a direct connection to the Ethernet (DHCP assigns an IP address for you also suggest assigning a static IP address to avoid conflicts). Sound - 5 / 5, which currently uses a 5.1 configuration with Polk Monitor speakers I am very pleased with the results. While the 606 was not soft feel Audyssey MultEQ found in 809 recent things that made her more "clear" (hard to describe) - Before you buy, I started watching The Lord of the Rings trilogy on bluray and I saw the first 2 movies and half of the third to 606 - finally finish the third film in the 809 - easily hear the difference in sound quality. Video - 5 / 5 * I * put into service, because I had very little to do with upscaling capabilities, all of my sources was 1080p (not including HD cable is 1080i and I've changed the text "through") have made use of my Wii is only 480p, and I was impressed with the quality (still no where near HD, but has seen a marked improvement on a "TV-52.) am curious to know how the upscaling feature 4K can work (because there is retail TVs on the market that can accept a resolution that high), but for now Vida processor should be sufficient to luxury and the source that is not already Features 1080p -.!. 4.5 / 5, is to use the opportunities in LOVE Pandora Network as easy as using it on my phone or computer (maybe not the part type with the remote), but the interface is very clean and easy to use. The recent firmware update added Spotify, but I have yet to check. DLNA function was important for me because it can be connected directly to my NAS and play all my MP3 files from there, no need to stream from the NAS to my PS3 I first bought a 3rd party app for the iPhone.
